Daniel Portela, originally from Mexico City began to study drawing and painting  in 1998 at Casa de Cultura Tlalnepantla, Estado de México, and after that he continues with the self-taught path. On September 2000 he presented his first solo exhibition at Matisse Gallery in Mexico City, followed by his second solo exhibition at the Pyramid Cultural Center of Mexico City. His next solo exhibition opens at La Luciérnaga Gallery in same city. Subsequently presented his work at the important venue Modern Art Café, and after that he was called to make two large paintings for staging "Confesiones del Pene" ("Penis Confessions") in Telón de Asfalto (Asphalt Curtain), followed by his next solo exhibition at the gallery of this renowned place.

 

On late 2010 he moves to Dallas, Tx, and he started to be represented by Ilume Gallery, participating on several group shows. In this city his work was selected to be part of important exhibitions in contemporary art venues like MAC McKinney Avenue Contemporary and the Bath House Cultural Center of Dallas, aswell his artwork is selected to be part of the important annual Black Tie Foundraiser art event. In November 2011 is selected to be published on renowned Studio Visit Magazine as part of a curated selection of the most outstanding emerging artists of 2011 living in the United States.

 

On 2013 he participates in a group exhibition at renowned Contempo Gallery in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and on mid 2014 he moves to Guadalajara, Mexico, where he started to be aprentice of renowned artist Nino Magaña, and also begins studies of sculpture at Casa Colomos Cultural Center with Efrain Tapia.

 

On this city his artwork was selected to be part of group exhibitions at important art venues as LARVA (Laboratorio de Arte Variedades), Palacio Legislativo del Estado de Jalisco (Goverment Law Palace of Guadalajara, Jalisco), the renowned Casa Museo Lopez Portillo (Lopez Portillo Museum), and then he was invited to create an art piece inspired of mexican World Boxing Champion Saúl "El Canelo" Alvarez for a fundraising auction organized by the athlete to benefit CRIT de Occidente by Teletón. Later Daniel Portela opens his solo-exhibition "OJOMETRIAS" (Metric Eyes) in Guadalajara city, followed by "Segmentos" group exhibition at Schnbl Art Gallery of same city.

 

After that, he moves for some time to Istanbul, Turkey, in 2020 he moves to Madrid, Spain, to study a Master Degree in Interior Design, another of his great passions, and resuming his artistic work.

Daniel Portela, originario de la Ciudad de México, inicia sus estudios de arte en 1998 en la Escuela de Artes de la Casa de Cultura de Tlalnepantla, Estado de México, para después continuar por el camino autodidacta. En 2000 presenta su primera exposición individual en la Galería Matisse, a la que han seguido exposiciones individuales en la Ciudad de México como en la Galería Luciérnaga, el Centro Cultural Pirámide, el Telón de Asfalto, entre otras, y en muestras colectivas en importantes lugares como el Modern Art Café. Fue llamado para realizar una obra de gran formato para el montaje “Las Confesiones” en la misma ciudad, y mas adelante se trasladó a radicar a la ciudad de Dallas, Tx., en donde representado por Illume Gallery participó en diversas muestras colectivas, además de haber sido seleccionado para exposiciones grupales en importantes recintos de arte contemporáneo como el MAC McKenney Contemporary y el Bathouse Cultural Center, así como para participar en el prestigiado evento anual de arte Black Tie Fundrising.

 

En 2011 fue seleccionado por la renombrada Studio Visit Magazine, de disitribución en toda la Unión Americana, como parte de los artistas emergentes más sobresalientes del año en los Estados Unidos, después de un extenso proceso curatorial.

 

De regreso en México participó en una muestra colectiva en la Galería Contempo de Puerto Vallarta, antes de trasladarse a radicar a la ciudad de Guadalajara en 2014 donde se vuelve alumno del reconocido artista plástico Nino Magaña, e incursiona brevemente en la escultura bajo la enseñanza de Efraín Tapia. En esta misma ciudad su trabajo fue seleccionado para participar en exposiciones colectivas en importantes recintos como LARVA (Laboratorio de Arte Variedades), el Palacio Legislativo del Gobierno de Jalisco y la Casa Museo López Portillo, y es invitado a crear una pieza inspirada en el campeón mundial de boxeo, el mexicano Saúl “El Canelo” Alvarez para una importante subasta organizada por el deportista para reunir fondos para el Teletón.  Posteriormente inaugura su primer muestra individual en Guadalajara titulada OJOMETRIAS  seguida de la exposición colectiva "Segmentos" en la Schnbl Art Gallery de la misma ciudad.

 

Después de un corto tiempo en la ciudad de Estambul, Turquía, en 2020 se traslada a radicar a la ciudad de Madrid, España, para realizar Estudios Superiores de Diseño de Interiores, otra de sus grandes pasiones, y retomando la creación artística.
